Passed away peacefully at home with his family and cat, Smokey, on May 12, 2020. Born in Tufts Cove, he was the eldest son of the late, Joseph Roy Wournell and Ellis Louise (Dares). He was predecease­d by siblings, Kenneth Winston, Donald Roy (Doris Isenor) Marlene Doucett, Allan Joseph, Judith Ann (in infancy); granddaugh­ter, Rachel Crawford (in infancy). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Eleanor (Tufts) Wournell; daughters, Alison Marie Crawford, Trenton, Ont.; Kimberley Maria Mattefs (Patrick), Arbor Vitae, Wis.; Sheila Dawn Wournell, Dartmouth; grandchild­ren, Corey Wournell, Toronto, Ont.; Caiden Wournell, Dartmouth; Cale Wournell, Dartmouth; Savanna Wournell, Dartmouth; Jessica Keizer, (Edward), Hubbards; Casandra Jamieson, Mill Cove; Sarah (Kevin) Hilwerda, Trenton, Ont.; Mary Crawford, Toronto, Ont.; ten great-grandchild­ren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and St. Mary’s University, a retiree of the Province of Nova Scotia. Robert was an officer in the RCAF in Winnipeg, Man., before returning to Dartmouth. He was kind, caring, generous, and always a gentlemen. An avid reader, he was known by his family as a "Walking Encycloped­ia". He loved all God’s little creatures. He enjoyed, fishing, walking on the trail at Albro Lake, family gatherings, a cold beer and fish and chips with friends and family at "The Timberlea Beverage Room". Special thanks to his loving family, Sheila, Benton, Savanna, The VON and Dr. Ogunnaike, who took great care of him during his illness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Cole Harbour Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19, there will be no Celebratio­n of Life.
