ACKERLEY, Georgena

-

Georgena was born on March 2, 1935 and went to be with her Lord on May 16, 2020 after a short illness, in Shore Regional Hospital. Georgena was the daughter of the late Hazel (Creighton) and George Reed. Georgena had a long career in nursing after graduating from the Saint John School of Nursing in 1956. She retired from Arborstone Enhanced Care (Shannex) in 2000. Georgena’s real passion was teaching the Word of the Lord to girls of all ages. Georgena was very active as a leader in Pioneer Girls groups at Timberlea Baptist Church and would spend summer vacations at Camp Cherith in Malagash. After Georgena retired she started spending her summers working at Bay Side Camp in the kitchen. In later years Georgena spent a lot of time with church visitation with other ladies from West End Baptist Church until, for health reasons, Georgena had to move to Bridgewater in 2013 and became a resident of Drumlin Hills in Bridgewater and joined Bridgewater Baptist Church. Georgena is survived by sons, Brian Ackerley (Glenda), Liverpool; and Robert Ackerley, Cold Lake, Alta.; grandchildren, Michael Ackerley (Lindsay), St. Margaret’s Bay; Holly Rhodenizer (Kenneth), Lloydminister, Alta.; great-grandchildren, Ella Rhodenizer, Jack Ackerley, Alexa Rhodenizer and Kate Ackerley; siblings, Mary Kennedy (Reed), Moncton, N.B.; Creighton Reed (Diane), Ottawa, Ont.; Murray Reed (Lorraine), Moncton, N.B. Georgena was predeceased by her husband, Murray; daughter, Barbra; and her parents, George and Hazel (Creighton) Reed. A service for Georgena will be held at a later date when her family members from outside the province can attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bayside Camp, Pioneer Girls, West End Baptist Church, Timberlea Baptist Church or Bridgewater Baptist Church. Georgena was active in all these organizations in her life. Online condolences: www.coleharbourfuneral.com
