LEVY (Goodwin), Goldie Faye

-

Age 87, East Chester, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on January 1, 2021. Goldie was a daughter of Clarence and Willetta Goodwin (of Central Argyle). She came to Halifax as a young woman to work at Simpsons, followed by employment at Maritime Air Command and Nova Scotia Light and Power. She met the love of her life, Richard Levy, from Big Tancook Island and they were married in West End Baptist Church. They had been married for 57 years when Richard passed in 2011. When her children arrived (Debra, Larry, Linda) she chose to be a stay-athome mom and poured herself into raising her children and being very involved in church and community activities. She dearly loved welcoming family and friends into her home on Sunnybrae Avenue in Fairview and later at Levy’s Landing in Scotch Cove, East Chester. Goldie loved music and along with playing the piano and organ, sang in many church and community choral groups. She was an amazing gardener and her property was always full of bright bushes, shrubs, and flowers of every kind. She learned to play golf in her later years becoming a member at Chester Golf Club and along with Richard enjoyed hitting balls along the beautiful fairways by the sea. She taught Sunday school and Daily Vacation Bible School for many years, always creating interesting crafts and animated stories for the children. She was involved in Christian Women’s Clubs, becoming a very effective speaker and travelling to many places in the Maritimes to share her story of faith. Goldie loved her Goodwin and Levy clan, being most happy in the presence of family. She is survived by son, Larry (Karen) Levy; daughter, Linda (Murray) Pura and son- in- law, Brian (Chrishanti) Mitton. Her beloved first-born daughter, Debra Lynn Mitton, went to be with the Lord in 2014. Surviving also are her sister, Iva Lorraine (Bob) Groves; and sisters-in-law, Beth Goodwin, Shirley Goodwin, Colleen Goodwin. She was predeceased by sister, Gloria (Bob) Cole, and brothers, Lawrence "Bud", Roy, Carl, and Ross. She had many cherished nieces and nephews. Goldie adored her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, praying continually for them and would want them mentioned here: Bradley (Meghan) Mitton (Kylie and Jake); Chris ( Joanna) Levy (Penelope, Isaac, Hazel); Corey Mitton; Michelle (Ted) Efthymiadis (Athena, Eli); Andrea (Aaron) Ewer ( Dallas, Alexander); Andrew (Jennie) Mitton (Leo); Micah Pura; Micaela (Chris) Spyker. The family would like to thank the staff of Heart to Heart in Marriot’s Cove, Lunenburg Home Support and Northwood Bedford for their compassionate care. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, January 7th at 1 p. m. in Pine Hill Cemetery, Chester Golf Course Road, with Pastor Joe Green officiating. With COVID-19 restrictions, please observe physical distancing and wearing of masks. The service will be streamed on the Aenon Baptist Facebook page. A Celebration of Life service will take place later in the year. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Aenon Baptist Church or Parkinson’s Society Canada.
