SAMPSON, Charles Victor "Sam" (Sgt., Ret’d)

Age 88 of St. Peter’s, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2020 in St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish. Born on December 22, 1932 to the late Frank and Agnes Sampson (of St. Peter’s), he is survived by his sister, Jessie Durant, formerly of Pomquet, now residing in the RK Macdonald Nursing Home, Antigonish; sisters-in-law, Bernadette (Benny) (Paddy) and Doris ( John); along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides his parents, Charles was predecease­d by his adoring wife of 24 years, the late Sylvia (Sib) Ida Saar; and siblings, Francis, Patrick (Paddy), John, Naiomi(bea) Macneil and Rosalie (Nan) martell. Charles served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 23 years, retiring as a Sergeant from CFB Greenwood, when he and Sib set their roots back in St. Peter’s. He was employed with Parks Canada as a lockmaster at the St. Peter’s Canal until 1986 when he transferre­d to Parks Canada in Ottawa, Ont. They later returned to retire in St. Peter’s. Charles was well-known (and will truly be missed) for his daily strolls in "town" never short of a smile and chat with relatives, neighbours and friends too numerous to mention. In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or memorial until his remains can be transporte­d to Pembrooke, Ont., where he will finally be laid to rest beside his darling wife, Sib. His family expresses sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Strait Richmond and St. Martha’s Hospitals for their dedicated and compassion­ate care during Sam’s final few days. Memorial donations may be forwarded to Strait Richmond Health Care Foundation or Regional Hospital Foundation, Cancer Treatment Facility.
