No change to Canada’s shipments

- JASON HERRING

After announcing a reduction in vaccine shipments due to production delays, PfizerBiontech is now resuming full shipments to European Union countries starting next week.

There's no word, however, on the impact the announcement will have for Canada. Federal officials said the same day only half of its previously promised vaccine supply would arrive in the next month.

Pfizer-biontech said in an online statement released late Friday night it would return to originally schedule shipments in the European Union the week of Jan. 25, but did not address other countries.

“Pfizer and Biontech are working relentlessly to support the further roll-out of the vaccination campaigns worldwide,” the statement read.

Federal Procurement Minister Anita Anand said on Twitter Saturday there was no update on the status of Pfizer vaccine shipments to Canada.

“We are once again in touch with representatives from Pfizer to reiterate firmly the importance for Canada to return to our regular delivery schedule as soon as possible,” Anand said.

“Pfizer assured us that it is deploying all efforts to do just that. This is an evolving situation. As soon as updated information on the delivery of Pfizer doses for Canada is available, we will share it with Canadians.”

Pfizer shipments to Canada are expected to continue, but will contain fewer doses. There is no change to scheduled shipments of the Moderna vaccine.
