BLOMFIELD, Jean Marquerite Lockhart

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Blomfield, age 98, on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in Lewis Hall, with her daughter Gillian by her side. Jean’s life journey began in 1922 in Newbiggin-by-the-sea, Northumberland, England, a daughter of Jean and Jim Cranston. She always had a kind and adventurous spirit and during the war she travelled to London to help care for children in Dr. Barnardo’s Homes for orphans. In 1947 Jean met and married Jim Blomfield, and they would go on to enjoy 66 very happy years together. In 1988, at an age when most people are looking forward to a peaceful retirement, Jean and Jim packed up their belongings and crossed the Atlantic to be close to their only child and their beloved grandchildren. Jean was a wonderful grandmother, never missing an opportunity to spend time with the children, and always so proud of their accomplishments. She was also lucky enough to get to know her greatgrandchildren. Jean had a great number of friends and was always genuinely interested in their lives and families. She was a keen knitter and had a lifelong love of reading. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Jim; sisters, Isa Mcneill and Molly Cranston; and brother, Alan Cranston. She is survived by her daughter, Gillian Dalziel and son-in-law John; grandchildren, Katherine Giannoulis, Dartmouth; Debbie, Sydney, Australia; James, Halifax; Amy, St. John’s, N.L.; step grandson, Alex, Ottawa; and great-grandchildren, Maria, Peter and Emery. For seven years Jean made her home at Parkland at the Lakes, and the family would like to thank the staff of Harris Hall, Jamieson Hall and Lewis Hall for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Dartmouth Funeral Home Ltd. Because of COVID-19 restrictions we will hold a Celebration of Life when we are once again able to come together, reminisce and enjoy a cup of tea, as Jean would like!
