It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend, Jessie (Beals) Whynder of North Preston, who went home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 12, 2021. Born in North Preston on May 2, 1933, she was 87 years of age and the last surviving child of the late Thomas and Edith (Downey) Beals. Jessie is survived by her daughters, Joanne, Dartmouth; Ella Mae (St. Francis), Colette (Michael) and Donna (Phillip), all of North Preston; Contessa (Ronald), Cole Harbour and Cyetia (Wayne), Ontario; sons, Louis (Pearleen), North Preston; Graham Jr., Vancouver; Charles (Cheryl) and Daniel (Barbara), Ontario; Cortonio (Loretta), Mineville; and Tyson (Yvette), Dartmouth; special brother, Walter (Lavonne) and special sister, First Lady Frances (Wallace Sr.) Smith; sisters-in-law, Gloria Simmonds and Sylvia Tate, and best friends, Clyde and Mayola Brooks; 20 grandchild­ren; 40 great-grandchild­ren; one great great-grandchild, and several godchildre­n. Jessie was a member of St. Thomas Baptist Church. She was passionate about spending time with family, and particular­ly loved spending time with her grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews. Knitting and playing dominos were some of her favorite hobbies. Jessie was employed with the Lord Nelson Hotel and Dartmouth Inn for several years. She was predecease­d by her husband, the late Graham Whynder Sr.; sisters, Martha, Mary, Gladys and Daisy; brothers, Wilbert, Joseph, Thomas Jr., Stanley and Malcom. She was also predecease­d by her daughter-in-law, Velvet; special sister, Madeline; best friend, Devina; and special friends, Perry and May Simmonds. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rev. Wallace and First Lady Frances Smith, VON nurses and Northwood Home Care and Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth Chapel. We, the family, appreciate all the love and support everyone has shown during this difficult time and give a special thanks to family, friends and loved ones who called, visited and contribute­d. We ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers.
