GORE, Gordon W.

-

On February 16, 2021, Gordon "Gordie" Wesley Gore, our professional blueberry-picker, baker of pies, weapon on the dance floor and ruthless card player, danced peacefully up to Heaven to reunite with his late bride, Margaret (Scottie) Elizabeth Gore. Gordie, the youngest of two siblings, was born in 1941, to parents, Wesley and Helen (Dobuck) Gore in Montreal, Que. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved sister, Marina Horrocks; his wife, Scottie; and his only son, Gordon. Gordie excelled at finding good deals in the flyers, bargains at the many stores, laughing at jokes and dishing them out. You’d never leave his home without a gift in hand, whether re-gifted, or a magnum of wine. He excelled less at biting his tongue when a curse word was warranted. Gordie had a remarkable career, taking pride in his accomplishments, he led a very successful life. He served proudly for more than 27 years in the Royal Canadian Artillery, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1986. A crowning achievement and career highlight for Gordie was being inducted into the Order of Military Merit, receiving this award from the Governor General of Canada the Right Honorable Jeanne Sauve. Soon after "retirement," he became a Fishery Officer in Yarmouth. Gordie’s career didn’t end there, he continued to work as a Boat Salesman with Trinav Marine Brokerage, for more than 10 years, eventually and officially retiring from work in 2010, at the ripe age of 69. He spoke highly of the many friendships he made throughout his long and successful careers. Gordie had a busy life, but he always made time for his family. He married his pen-pal, soulmate and best friend on November 28, 1964, the late Scottie Surrette. He was a devoted husband, always spoiling his true love. His hobbies included fishing, camping, small engine repairs and woodworking. He would always have his radio on, blasting the oldies. Gordie is survived by his loving daughters, Helen (Gilles) Sansterre, Ottawa; Kimberlyann (David) Sweeney, Yarmouth; and who will continue to compete over who is the favourite. He is also survived by his special hand-picked daughter, Shelley Rodgerson, Yarmouth. He will be particularly missed by his granddaughters, Ashley Sweeney, Emily-ann (Benjamin) Mackenzie, Jeanelle and Justine Sansterre and grandson, Mitchel Sansterre. Also survived by his newly-born great-grandson, Beckham, Gordie cherished the exceptional experience of being a great-grandfather. Gramps would make the best ice cream sundaes for his grandkids and would do anything he could to make sure they all individually felt special. He will also be missed by his dear friend, Georgina Allen and many other family and friends. In accordance with Gordon’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth, and there will be no visitation. A graveside service and interment will be held on March 1st at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Forest Street, Yarmouth. Donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the Yarmouth Food Bank, https:// www.feednovascotia.ca/location/yarmouth-food-bank.
