FORBES, Shirley Ann

-

Left us peacefully on May 6, 2021 at the age of 70 years after a short struggle with cancer. Shirley was born on September 25, 1950 to Henry Patrick “Harry” Forbes (of Halifax) and Mary Catherine “Katie” Mccarron (of Halifax). Both parents are deceased. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Halifax where she grew up with six sisters and two brothers. They are Sandra (J.D., deceased) Macpherson of Stratford, P.E.I.; Diane (Gary) Sutherland of Halifax; Darlene (Gary) Rossong of Lower Sackville; Debra Forbes of Halifax; Sharon Forbes (Vern Welton) of Halifax; Harry (Nancy) Forbes of Hatchet Lake; Robert (Paulette) Forbes of Oakville, Ont.; and Trina (Troy) Crosby of Cole Harbour. Shirley was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nanny and friend. She had a heart of gold, loved kids, and was happiest helping and caring for others. She enriched the lives of many people. She was a devoted mother who went above and beyond for her only child, Michael (Trina) of Newmarket, Ont. She adored her three grandchildren (Luc, Megan, and Matthew) and would do anything for them. That adoration was mutual. In much the same way, she had special relationships with her eight siblings and 19 nieces and nephews. Those close ties were on full display when her nieces and nephews orchestrated an exceptionally large and incredibly uplifting Zoom call with Shirley before she passed. For a career, Shirley spent many years in office support before becoming a nanny. The nanny role fit Shirley’s caregiving nature and her love of kids. She nannied for several families and loved each of the children as if they were her own. Shirley enjoyed long walks, finding a good deal, stinging humour, lending a hand to friends, Judge Judy, and good conversation over a cup of tea. Family and friends will miss sharing those things with her. Services are limited to immediate family due to COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Shirley’s favourite charities, Operation Smile Canada.
