CURRIE (Archibald, Duffy), Thelma Joyce

It is with great sadness that the family of Thelma Joyce Currie (Archibald, Duffy) announces her passing on April 27, 2021. Thelma was born in Pleasant Valley, Colchester Co., on June 4, 1930 to Wendell and Esther (Bates) Archibald. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Thelma was a strong, independen­t woman who took in stride the demands of raising her family of three girls during her first husband Bill’s long absences while he served in the RCN and doing it alone after his death in 1974. In 1981, she married Vernon Currie and was at his bedside when he passed in 2009. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Eric Hodgson, d. 2020), Lower Sackville; Maureen (Michael Mason), Yarmouth; and Marrilee (Ken Nickerson), Cole Harbour; grandchild­ren, Shannon Hodgson, Woodside; William Hodgson (Cheryl Kelly), Middle Sackville; and Gwyn Mason (Isaac Smith), Vancouver; great-grandchild­ren, Lexi, William, Layla, Lakelyn, Lace and Lileigh Hodgson, and two chosen Great Grandchild­ren Kiara and Nevaeh Keleher. She is also survived by numerous Archibald nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Gwen Archibald; Brown nephews and families in Orillia, Ont.; brother-in-law, Clayton (Evelyn) Mccoleman and sister-in-law, Katherine Laporte in Ontario. She was predecease­d by her parents and her brothers, Stuart, Ivan, Willard, Ronald, and Harold (in infancy). Thelma has willed her body to Dalhousie Medical School, after which her remains will be interred in the Dalhousie Memorial Garden. At her request, there will be no visitation or memorial service. Donations may be made in her name to Hope for Wildlife, the Canadian Heart Fund, or the Cancer Society of Canada.
