MARTIN, Gladys Elizabeth

Age 91, of Sheffield Mills, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Born in Halifax on May 2, 1930, she was the youngest child of the late John and Beatrice (Rideout) Howell. Gladys lived in Sheffield Mills for over 40 years, Centrevill­e for 14 years and Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville since 2019. She was a faithful member of First Cornwallis United Baptist Church, Upper Canard, as well as a Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years. She served as a member, secretary and past president of Blanche Gower Auxiliary. She also served as treasurer, secretary and past president of Sheffield Mills Women’s Institute. She worked for Canada Post and Andrews Furniture Store. She loved quilting, music, animals, watching the birds, her church, but most of all, her family. We all have fond memories of large family gatherings at her house and the many wonderful things she did for us. Gladys is survived by her children, Beatrice Elizabeth Dill, Steven Leslie (Judy) Martin and Patricia Louise (Allen) Rhynold; grandchild­ren, Leonard (Christine Hanson) Dill, Carrie (Dwight) Horsnell, Shelly (Cory) Walker, David (Sarah Benjamin) Martin, Annette Allen (Loren Irving), Patrick (Clarissa) Allen; 13 greatgrand­children; two great great-grandchild­ren; sister, Dorothy Foord, Hamilton, Ont.; and sister-in-law, Lois Howell, Dundas, Ont.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, Kenneth Leslie Martin; brothers, Clifford and Edwin; and daughter-in-law, Deborah. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks of appreciati­on to the staff of Evergreen Home for Special Care and the Valley Regional Hospital for the care, compassion and kindness given to Gladys. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will take place in Canard Burial Ground, Upper Canard. A video webcast of the service will be available on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 11 a.m. Donations in memory may be made to the SPCA or First Cornwallis United Baptist Church.
