Fifteen Atlantic university football players earned 2021 East-west Bowl roster recognitions, announced jointly Wednesday evening by U Sports and the Canadian Football League.

The roster recognitions highlight the top Canadian football prospects, with 110 U Sports-eligible standouts identified for the 2022 CFL Draft.

Since 2003, the East-west Bowl has showcased the top Canadian university football prospects in an annual postseason all-star game. However, this marks the second straight year the game has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three players each from the five AUS clubs earned selections to the East Team: defensive back Adrian Greene and wide receivers Shedler Fervius and Brycen Mayoh of Saint Mary’s; defensive back Ethan Mastin, defensive lineman Alex Fedchun and offensive lineman Gregor Mackellar of St. Francis Xavier; defensive lineman Kyle Chappus, linebacker Franck Kemayou and running back Cole Estabrooks of Acadia; kicker James Parker and defensive linemen Reece Martin and Vincenzo Frangione of Mount Allison and defensive back Jake Kelly, linebacker Liam Patton and wide receiver Corey Williams of Bishop’s.

Three Nova Scotians were recognized: Timberlea’s Mackellar, Chappus of Black River and offensive lineman Rodeem Brown of Halifax, who plays for the University of Alberta Golden Bears and earned a Team West selection.

Among the notable recognitions were Waterloo quarterback Tre Ford and Saskatchewan running back Adam Machart, each a Hec Crighton Trophy finalist.

“Although we are not able to hold the East-west Bowl again this spring due to the ongoing pandemic,” Lisette Johnson-stapley, U Sports chief sport officer, said in a news release, “we wanted to honour the 2022 class for their dedication over the past year and look forward to hopefully watching them safely return to the gridiron this fall.”

The Team West roster consists of players from the Canada West and Ontario conference schools, except for Carleton, Ottawa and Queen’s, which were named to the East squad. The remainder of Team East features players from the AUS and Quebec conference.
