FORBRIGGER, John Stanley "Stan"

Passed away peacefully on Friday, July 16, at the age of 90 in Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow with his daughter by his side. Stan was born in Port Malcolm on September 15, 1930, to William Joseph and Nina Dorothy (O'hearn) Forbrigger. Stan grew up in Point Tupper with three brothers and four sisters. In 1949 Stan joined the Navy and was transferre­d to HMCS Caribou in Corner Brook, N.L., where he met and married Beryl Inez Smith on July 17, 1954. Stan spent 27 years with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Stores man on many bases and ships throughout his career. When he retired in 1975, he moved back to Port Hawkesbury where he began working with NSPC. He worked as a Cost Analyst, working at the Port Hawkesbury, Trenton and Point Aconi Plants. After he retired from there he moved to Halifax. While Stan was living in Port Hawkesbury, he also volunteere­d with Squadron 719 of the Air Cadets. He also belonged to Branch 43 of the Royal Canadian Legion.

When he moved to Trenton for a couple of years, he volunteere­d with the Royal William Sea Cadets in Pictou, and had joined the RCAF club in Stellarton. Stan loved to talk about his military career and all the places he had visited and the people he had met. Another of Stan's passions was baking. He was always making fudge or pies for all his friends and family. Stan will be greatly missed by his daughters, Cathy (Ron) Boers, Stellarton; Laurie (David) Bignall, Buckeye, Ariz.; Terri Forbrigger, Smithers, B.C.; and Susan Forbrigger, Greenville, B.C.; grandchild­ren, Carel (Michelle) Boers, Shawn Boers, Mark (Minhtu) Mackinnon, Amanda (Trevor) Howell, Nicole (Duncan)walker, Marie Ried (Wyatt Vanderhyde­n); greatgrand­children, Lucas, Nolan, Pietra, Silas, Sloan, Michael, Orion, Finn and Rhys; brothers, Bob (Carmel) Forbrigger, Ottawa, Ont.; Michael (Joan) Forbrigger, Port Hawkesbury; sisters, Thelma Forbrigger, Port Hawkesbury; Jeannette Rizzuto, Port Hawkesbury; sister-in-law, Rena Forbrigger, Point Tupper; very special friends, Ron and Hope Knapman, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. Stan was predecease­d by his wife, Beryl Inez; a son in infancy; parents, William and Nina Forbrigger; brother, Melvin Forbrigger; sisters, Pauline Ganshirt and Fran Macdonald. There will be visitation in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury on Friday, July 30th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury on Saturday, July 31st at 10 a.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Diabetes Canada, or a charity on one's choice.
