TETANISH, William "Bill" Matthew

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of William “Bill” Tetanish on Aug. 31, 2021, with his family at his side following a battle with cancer. Bill was born on Sept. 28, 1946, in Sydney to Lydia Josephine (Went) and William Tetanish, Sr. Growing up in Whitney Pier, Bill was involved in minor hockey, baseball, badminton and Ukrainian dance. Following graduation from Sydney Academy, Bill moved to Wolfville to continue his education at Acadia University. It was while living in the Annapolis Valley that Bill met the love of his life, Beverlyann Wheaton. They married in 1975 and raised three children - Brett, Tasha (Tony Adams) and Raissa – and have four grandchildren: Carlee and Olivia Tetanish; and Allister and Elliott Adams. Bill was a dedicated volunteer, spending 15 years as a firefighter with the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department and another 15 years with the department’s auxiliary. It wasn’t hard to find Bill and Bev at all the old-time dances. Bill loved golf and was thrilled to convince Bev to join him on the course. In later years, Bill enjoyed camping in Walton, and he continued the family tradition of making pierogis from scratch at Christmas time. Other than his wife, children and grandchildren, Bill is survived by sisters Faith (George) Murphy, of Waterville, and Katherine (Bob) Ojolick, of Sydney; cousins, nieces and nephews; and his faithful feline companion, Lily. Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Tommy, and parents-in-law Lawrence and Adeline Wheaton. Bill and family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nathan Lamond, Dr. F. Donald Clarke, Dr. Amanda Macdonald, Amber Phillips, chemotherapy nurses at the VG, Palliative care unit in Windsor, VON, and friends. Cremation has taken place.
