MACDONALD CND, Sister Carmelita (Sister Saint Michael Ann)

-

It is with deep sadness and a great sense of loss that we announce the death of Sister Carmelita Macdonald (Sister Saint Michael Ann), CND at the CND Health Care Centre, Sydney, on December 29, 2021. Sister Carmelita was born in Sydney, on June 11, 1932, to Michael Macdonald and Johanna Maccormack. She was predeceased by her brothers, James, Joseph, Bernie, John Hugh and Edward Vincent (her twin); and by her sisters, Elizabeth, Refina and twins, Theresa and Catherine. Sister Carmelita is survived by several nieces and nephews of whom she was truly appreciative and proud. She was the beloved aunt of her many nieces and nephews whose careers and accomplishments she followed and fostered over the years. Sister Carmie grew up in the North End of Sydney and was a lifelong member of her beloved Sacred Heart Parish and a student of Holy Angels Convent. She entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1952 and made profession in 1954. Sister Carmelita was a devoted teacher, serving in various schools of Nova Scotia in New Glasgow, Pictou, Truro and Sydney. After retirement from teaching, Sister Carmie pursued a favoured passion for arts and crafts. Her artistic ability was evident in decoration for her parish church. Sister Carmie was also known as the repository for family history as well as community knowledge. With the closure of Holy Angels Convent she moved with the other sisters to Parkland Cape Breton where she resided for ten years before moving to the CND Health Care Centre because of failing health. We, her community, wish to express our gratitude to Doctor Carol Critchley for her years of care for Carmelita. We also want to thank the Sisters and staff of the CND Health Care Centre. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry, Parkview Chapel. Funeral Services will be announced at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting: www.twcurry.com
