WENTZELL, Anita Mary

-

It is with great sadness that the family of Anita Mary Wentzell, age 83, of Halifax, announce her passing on January 2, 2022 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, following open heart surgery. Born in Little River Harbour, Yarmouth Co., on January 24, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Laura (Boudreau) Newell. She was a past member of the Halifax Jaycettes and Spryfield Lioness Club. She loved gardening and doing handcrafts. Never sitting idle, she always had a craft or project on the go such as cross stitch patterns, making quilts, knitting mittens and hats for needy children and the homeless, as well as baby clothes and blankets for her future great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and discover unique areas around the world, especially ocean liner cruises, that became a yearly event. Anita dedicated her life to her family and worked tirelessly to maintain her primary household and a lakefront summer home where they spent much of their summers. There were many fond memories of days spent on the water and nights having campfires or playing cottage games. Anita was a devote catholic and this strong faith gave her the strength to get through difficult times, especially near the end when her health started to wane. She will be mourned by Darrell, her loving husband of 61 years; her son, David and his children, Meghan (Matt) and Connor (Meghan), and their mother, Lee Ann; her daughters, Elizabeth Ann (David) Farquharson and their children, Ashley (Rob) plus her 3-week-old great-grandchild, Jack and Jennifer (Dan), all of Ottawa; and Rose Marie (Stewart) Campbell and their children, Ryan (Jenn), Matthew (fiancé Debora) and Emily. Her surviving siblings include sisters, Gaila Magee, Delta, B.C.; Paulette Newell, Pickering, Ont.; and Catherine Ann (late Les) Haverstock, Whitewood, Sask.; and brothers, Daniel (Delores), Kanata, Ont.; Wayne (Judy), Dartmouth; Aldrick (Carol Ann), St. Thomas, Ont.; Larry, Chinderah, Australia; and Norman (Catherine), Vaughan. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph (Mary), Halifax and sister, Deanna (late Henry) Nowlan, Ottawa. The family would like to offer many thanks to the cardiac team at the Halifax Infirmary. If desired, donations may be made in Anita’s memory to QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 7th at 1 p.m. in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 6 St. Michael’s Ave., Halifax. Due to COVID-19 restrictions space is limited for the service.
