Restaurant Brands International announced Tuesday it will open hundreds of its popular Popeyes chicken restaurants in South Korea but the one I’m most often asked about is the one being built in Halifax.

The last I have heard was that Popeyes would open by late spring, the exterior of the Hogan Court location is getting close to completion.

A&W will also be adding a restaurant on Hogan Court.

Continuing with the food theme, Bertossi Group, which opened deli-bakery Pane e Circo in Bishops Landing at 1475 Lower Water St late last year, is opening a second Halifax location at the corner of Queen and Doyle streets.

And RCR Hospitality Group is planning to open Pazzo Italian Kitchen at 1566 Barrington St. in Halifax.

The popular Side Hustle Snack Bar, which had been operating out of North Brewing at 899 Portland St. in Dartmouth for the last two years, is breaking out on its own. It will be taking over the spot at 21 Portland St.

Meanwhile, North Brewing will be taking its kitchen inhouse and relaunching at both Dartmouth and its location in Timberlea, 501 Timberlea Village Pkwy.

Dollarama will be attached to the Timberlea Sobeys.

Brookline Plaza, on Bloom Lane in Bedford, will soon be home to Seoul Korean BBQ, The Village Taphouse and a second location of Saj House.

The top floor of the former World Trade Centre on Argyle Street in Halifax is in the process of being transformed into Level 8 Nightclub & Lounge.

Pizza chain, Dominos, is adding a location at Mill Cove in Bedford.

Oliver & Bonacini Hospitality recently opened Drift in Queens Marque, 1709 Lower Water St. in Halifax, and have a speakeasy, BKS, soon to open. It also has Bar Sofia, which is a “casual eatery” aimed at lovers of tacos and tequila.

Cafe Lunette, the Parisianinspire café-by-day, bistroby-night will likewise be opening in Queens Marque.

The Narrows Halifax Public House, which is described as a traditional public house in the heart of the North End, will be opening this winter at 2720 Gottingen St. It had Kickstarter campaign to help the finish and raised more than $25,000 more than their initial ask of $45,000.

Bahamian food will be represented in Halifax’s growing diversity of dining options when East Coast Conch Restaurant and Bar opens at 771 Bedford Highway.

The Kon Dog, which specializes in Korean rice hot dogs, is slated to open soon on the Bedford Highway. The Kon Dog’s rice hot dog is like a corndog but in a rice-flour batter.

This week, north-end Halifax will welcome another gourmet pizza spot when Lou Pecou opens at the corner of Cunard and Maynard streets.

Chanoey’s Pasta located at 41 Portland St. in Dartmouth, will be opening a second location on Quinpool Road in Halifax.

Long-time Cole Harbour staple, Big Leagues, will soon have a second location. The sport bar will open in space once occupied by the Clay West Bar and Grill, 120 Susie Lake Cres. in Bayers Lake Park.

I expect to see more flavours

of Southern Asian and more Asian street food open in HRM this year. I also anticipate we will see more and more beer gardens and expanded patios this summer.
