BARRETT, Paulette Ella

-

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Paulette Ella Barrett, on April 25, 2022 in QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Born in Parker’s Cove, she grew up in Halifax and later attended Queen Elizabeth High School before going on to pursue a career in accounting. While working for Dominion Stores and later Lawtons Drugs and Scotia Drug Centre, an entrepreneurial spirit and love of a decent cup of coffee led her to own and open MP’S Cafe, an independent shop where she could be found serving coffee and cafe fare with love and familiarity to Cornwallis Street and beyond. She was the designer, decorator, social architect and general contractor of a beautiful home. She was a sailor, a skier, a traveller and a music lover who paved her own way. Paulette perfected a brilliant seafood chowder, could sew a gown, whip up a Halloween costume, drive you wherever you needed to go and be your confidant with unmatched care, kindness and generosity. Her later career and passion was to provide excellent in home care to elders in need. After training, she started work with Northwood Home Care before transitioning into private care work for so many people that she adored. And … during most of this she was and will always, with grace and patience, be a mother. One with a sense of adventure, humour and style that her family and dear friends will remember with love. She is survived by her children, Denise and Paul; predeceased by father, Carol and mother, Edna; brother, Gordon; sister, Ruby; first and only husband, James D. Barrett; and daughter, Pamela. The family would like to extend gratitude and thanks to staff, nurses and doctors at the QEII. A private burial will take place and a celebration of life will be organized at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that friends and community members make a donation to Feed Nova Scotia. Online condolences and inquiries to receive information regarding the celebration of life can be sent to: dmbmail2011@gmail.com
