Sadie Macquarrie dies at age 100

MACQUARRIE, Sarah Catherine "Sadie"

It is with great sadness, the nieces and nephews of Sarah Catherine (Sadie) Macquarrie, age100 years, announce her peaceful passing in R.K. Macdonald Nursing Home on Friday, May 6, 2022, with family by her side. Born on February 28, 1922, in Doctor's Brook, Antigonish Co., she was the daughter of the late Hector Angus and Mary Elizabeth (Gillis) Macquarrie. Sarah was a gracious lady of strong faith in God, and proud of her Scottish heritage. Following her retirement from Hills Department Stores Head Office in Canton, Massachuse­tts, where she lived and worked for many years, Sadie returned home to Antigonish to be closer to family, in 2003. Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by her brothers and sisters-in-law, John Stephen (Gertie) and Angus Allan (Jennie); as well as nephew, Joseph Paul, in infancy. She is survived by John Stephen's children, Mary (Duncan) Macinnis, Stephen (Geta), Elaine (John) Moar, Sarita (Bill) Landry, Bill (Colleen), Kevin (Lucille) and Angus Allan's children, Marcie (Cabrini), Anne (Rick) Cluett, Joan (David) Crawford, Catherine (Scott) Grady, Johnnie (Ann), Janice, Allan (Francine), Paula and Paul; as well as many grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 11th in Macisaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Ninian Cathedral, Rev. Danny Maclennan presiding. All attendees are requested to wear a facemask. Burial in St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery, Arisaig. Memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery Fund or R.K. Macdonald Nursing Home. The family would like to thank the R.K. Macdonald Nursing Home for the exceptiona­l love and care provided to Sarah over the last few years. A special thank you to Dr. Michelle Murphy for her care and compassion. www.macisaacs.ca
