Emma Crowell dies at age 100

Age 100, passed away on Saturday June 25, 2022 in Ocean View Continuing Care Centre, Eastern Passage. Born December 13, 1921, in Upper Musquodobo­it, at the home of her great-grandfathe­r, Harrison Holman and raised on Taylors Head , she was the daughter of the late Archie and Florence (Archibald) Mccarthy. Emma graduated in 1941 from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro and taught school in Beaver Harbour, Owls Head, St. Margaret’s Bay and Middle Porters Lake. Emma resided on the Crowell Road, East Lawrenceto­wn for 73 years until she moved to Ocean View Continuing Care in Eastern Passage at the age of 97. She was predecease­d by her mother and father; her maternal grandparen­ts, Emma (Holman) and Sidney Archibald; paternal grandparen­ts, Samuel and Nancy (Hutchinson) Mccarthy; her only sibling, Inez Scheidl and her husband (Sylvester) (of Regina/ Prince Albert, Sask.); and daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Barry) Crowell. Surviving are her children, Betty Burris, Porters Lake; Linda Macdonald (Francis), West Lawrenceto­wn; Kenneth Crowell, East Lawrenceto­wn; Karen Crowell (Greg Alyward), Dartmouth; Janet Billins (Michael), Aplsey, Ont.; Marianne Crowell, Cole Harbour; Marilyn Brook (David), East Lawrenceto­wn; Inez Slawter (Wendell), East Lawrenceto­wn; Marjorie Power (Chris), Porters Lake; and Donald Crowell, East Lawrenceto­wn; grandchild­ren, Donald (Kara) Macdonald, Michael (Melinda) Macdonald, Kathleen (Keith Black) Crowell, Steven (Michelle) Billins, Justin (Alex) Billins, Evan Brook (Vicki), Carson Brook (Samantha), Emily Buckler, Josh Buckler (Maddie), Matthew (Sabrina) Power, Gregory (Shannon) Power, Kyle Crowell (Kayla), Hunter Crowell (Laura); her sister’s children, Murray (Lucille) Scheidl, Susan Brown (late Fred) and their families who reside in British Columbia; great-grandchild­ren, Ryan Macdonald, Ava Macdonald, Hana Macdonald, Samantha Macdonald, Emma Brook, Oliver Antle, Kingston Curren, Hailey Power, Hannah Power, Alexander Power, Brooklynn Power and Baby Power to be arriving in January, 2023. Emma was a loving and devoted daughter, sister and best mom ever. She was a lady of strength, wisdom and courage. We will love and miss her forever. Many heartfelt thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at Ocean View who took such loving care of our mother during her time with them. (Angels walk among us. How blessed are we to have them!!) Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at a future date – to be announced.
