WENTZELL, Merrill Elton

Resident of Hebbville. At the age of 86, Merrill peacefully sailed away to the great beyond from the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 with his beloved son standing over him like an angel. He was a son of the late Murray and Ruby Wentzell (of Maplewood). He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Moore) Wentzell of 61 years; and his children, Gina (Kevin), Grace, Nancy (Mike), Mitchell (Sandra); and many foster children who were dear to his heart; sisters, Louise (Carl) Dalrymple, Joyce (Gerald) Seamone; brother, Calvin (Ellen) Wentzell; five grandchildren, many foster grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Douglas (Karen) Moore, Llewellyn (Patricia) Moore; sisters-in-law, Frances Wentzell, Florence Wentzel, Marie (Jacques) Perron, Irene (Carter) Mader, Ardith (Hendrik) Bos; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Glenda (Jim) Thompson. Merrill’s wanderlust and love of water led him to a career as a merchant marine with his first voyage to Venezuela at age 18. He made many a trip to the Great Lakes and the Beaufort Sea. Merrill was a loving husband and kind, dedicated father who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bridgewater Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 30th at 2 p.m. in Bridgewater Baptist Church, 564 Glen Allan Dr., and also live-streamed at: www.bridgewaterbaptist.com
