KAY, Joseph Stephen James

-

Better known as Steve or Stevie, peacefully passed away in his chosen hometown of Waverley, NS on April 27, 2024. Born on August 17, 1954, in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of Leslie and Rita (Girouard) Kay. Steve was a carpenter by trade and a mechanic by avocation, always ready to lend a hand with fixing a house or car. A lover of puzzles and cribbage and a dedicated Jeopardy! enthusiast, Steve's wit and wisdom shone through in his storytelling, even if the tales occasionally veered from strict accuracy. As Mark Twain said, "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Steve's willingness to hit the road knew no bounds; driving to Ontario and back in a single day many times when he was needed. He had a fondness for animals and made fast friends with pets wherever he went. He was also a devoted member of the Waverley Legion, where he found camaraderie and community. Steve is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Peacock; his children, Emily and Jacob; his sisters, Marian (Kevin) Hearns, Joanne Mckenzie, and Lynn (John) Hilchey; his cat, Pepper; his grand-dog, Raynor; and a host of nieces and nephews. Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Let's honour his memory by sharing a story, lending a hand, or going for a long drive. Rest easy, Steve. Your legacy of kindness and humour will be remembered. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Waverley Legion on Friday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., located at Royal Canadian Legion Dieppe Branch 90, 2234 Rocky Lake Drive, Waverley, NS, B2R 1R4. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Waverley Legion. For photos and online condolences please see: www.donaldkwalker.ca
