The Coast - - THIS WEEK -

The amount Halifax council has given We Day over the past three years.

Over half of the annual $65,000 grant comes from the city’s Cultural Events and Showcases budget, with the remaining $27,500 awarded specially from general contingency reserves. A CANADALAND investigation this week revealed that the celebrity non-profit, which hosts stadium-sized events to inspire young people to take part in the “WE Movement,” is connected to no fewer than three companies known to use child and slave labour in their supply chain. The city’s currently waiting for confirmation on if a fall WE Day Atlantic event will take place next month. According to city hall, WE Day would be required to apply for funding again next year and beyond for any future events.
