There will be splishing and splashing in Bible Hill this summer.

The village’s Recreation Park splash pad has officially reopened thanks to the easing of pandemic restrictions by Public Health.

In addition to the splash pad, the park offers walking trails, a picnic shelter and gazebo for shade or as a spot to eat lunch. There’s also a natural playground as well as a parent-tot swing and other play structures.

The village is also encouraging people to take advantage of its numerous outdoor opportunities. Bible Hill has many small neighbourhood parks and Airport Field Park, in addition to harness racing action at Truro Raceway, gardens at the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus and many other amenities, including the Cobequid Trail network.

Starting from College Road near Main Street, there are the well-known picturesque grounds at Dalhousie, along the bank overlooking the Salmon River, and through to Bible Hill Recreation Park. From Bible Hill Recreation Park, trails go through the north and south end of the property.

Further up College Road, at Scenic Drive, is Eagle Crest Trail. This trail winds along the bank, through the forest of maple and hemlock trees, overlooking the Salmon River which connects through to Warren Drive.

Also within this trail section is the Pat Mahaney Mountain Bike Trail, suitable for youth riders, which offers loops for three skill levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Just east of the top of Warren Drive will connect users with trails from College Road through Meadowland Avenue and on from Retson Drive through to Pictou Road.

East of the Pictou Road trailhead is the Farnham Brook Trail section at Village Court which has a mix of scenery and crossing the Farnham Brook several times. From Village Court, trail users can travel east to McCallum Drive, or west to Dr. Bernie MacDonald Drive and end at Hazel Drive (near Foodland).

Another option is the Holy Well Park on Main Street. It offers the opportunity to have a picnic lunch and use the swings while enjoying the sounds and sight of the running water of the Salmon River.

Closer to many homes, greenspaces around the village provide the opportunity to enjoy being outside. Look for village signs at Poplar Drive, Vimy Road, Scenic Drive, Teakwood Court, Armstrong Avenue, Clover Drive, Meadowlan, Fielding and Hillcrest avenues, Village Court, Retson and Murdock drives.
