Income tax help available for eligible recipients
Truro and area residents will have many opportunities to receive assistance doing their income tax.
The annual Community Volunteer Income Tax Program will be offered again this year.
It is a program of the Canada Revenue Agency and has trained volunteers who will do income taxes for free for low-income residents and others who are eligible. To find out if you are eligible, go online to ‘about free tax clinics’ at Canada.ca and there is an eligibility section.
Due to the pandemic, there will not be any in-person clinics in this area. The clinics will begin on March 3. People can drop off their income tax related papers at the side door (across from the police station) at the Truro library at designed times.
Tax papers can be dropped off Tuesdays between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers will take them home to be completed and call clients to inform them when they will be ready for pick up.
Information required when dropping off tax information is your name, address, phone number, date of birth, marital status, if are you a Canadian citizen, do you want Elections Canada to get your address for elections, children and their dates of birth, relationship, any income.
People will be called if more information is required.
Pick-up of completed income tax documents will be Saturdays between 1:30 and to 4:30 p.m.
