No shortage of fun activities in Brookfield

- ERIN JAMIESON thewire@saltwire.com @SaltWireNetwork Erin Jamieson is a resident of Brookfield who is eager to share the happenings of the community with all ages.

The winter weather has been co-operating, overall, with our busy social lives in Brookfield. The many events we’ve been holding have carried on without much disruption. I hope I didn’t jinx us! The Valentine’s Extravaganza at Knox United Church was a huge success with more than 100 tickets sold. The music of Chillin’ Sound was fantastic. They played a great variety of songs that had everyone singing along. A special guest appearance from local legend Dale Fisher was a lovely surprise, too. Unfortunately, Acacia wasn’t able to perform and their musical talents were missed.

Guests were impressed with the abundant appetizers and desserts, which were delicious. There were plenty of smiles and good conversations all evening. Mark this event on your calendar for next year because you won’t want to miss it.

Special retirement greetings are sent to Al Fielding on his well-deserved retirement that took place at the end of January. He has spent the last 30 plus years at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield. Can you imagine how many hockey players (young and old) and their families he has seen coming and going over the years? Thousands likely!

All the phone calls and behind the scenes things he has done to keep everything running smoothly certainly will be missed. Al was dedicated to the rink.

We are excited to welcome Nancy Hynes as the new administrator at the rink and we wish her all the best in her new role. Stop in and say hello to Nancy if you have the chance.

The popular community calendars are being organized for another year. They are a great way to keep connected to your friends and neighbours. How else are you going to remember their birthday or anniversary?

They cost $15 and are available by calling Jocelyn at 902-956-0212. There is also advertising spots available to promote your business, too. The calendar sales are a fundraiser for the Brookfield Pastoral Charge to help support both Middle Stewiacke and Knox United churches.

The calendar months will run May 2023 to April 2024 and are a great idea for home or the office. Maybe even as a gift for someone in your family?
