Awaken the poet in you at Oxford’s poetry festival
OXFORD - There is no doubt the initial springtime Oxford Poetry Festivals in April of 2018 and 2019 were extremely successful in promoting and developing the poetic talent in local communities.
They also provided an opportunity for those new to the poetic art form to gather with others who are unaware if they would enjoy poetry, but are willing to take a chance and experience it at the event.
Because of COVID-19, the hard-working Oxford Poetry Festival committee members were forced to skip the usual events for both last year and this year, but they are actively planning to return to a full post-pandemic festival in 2022.
In the meantime, they have created a COVID-safe, Facebook-based opportunity to take place through the month of April that will appeal to both accomplished local poets and poetic aspirants, by featuring original works of up to two poems from each successful entrant on the Poetry at Large Facebook page.
The month-long event is open to people of all ages living in Oxford and surrounding areas of Cumberland County. Poems are to be submitted by e-mail to rpatriquin@oxfordns.ca. before the deadline of March 15.
Poetic works that are uplifting and hopeful would be more than welcome.
