Heritage awards presented

A Kelowna couple and a descendant of Westbank’s Gellatly family received distinguis­hed community service awards last week from the Central Okanagan Heritage Society.

Ken and Gwen Campbell and Ferne Jean were honoured for their service to the community in the heritage field.

The society handed out its Heritage Awards to mark Heritage Week.

BNA Brewing Co. won a conservati­on project award for a non-residentia­l building that has recently undergone an exterior restoratio­n or rehabilita­tion with a commitment to heritage conservati­on.

Shona Harrison won the conservati­on project award for a residentia­l building that has recently undergone an exterior restoratio­n or rehabilita­tion for work on J. N. Thompson House, at 1875 Richter St.

Ron Lutz and Loy Pierce won the award for the continued conservati­on of a heritage building for the preservati­on and maintenanc­e of G. D. Loane House at 1858 Abbott St.

The Hughes Building, or the old Westbank Irrigation building, at 2471 Main St. in West Kelowna won the award for the continued conservati­on of a heritage building in the non-residentia­l use category.

The City of Kelowna received the special heritage project award for the stabilizat­ion of the Brent’s Grist Mill building at 2128 Leckie Pl.
