California State Championships

Fresh off the Vegas Acro Cup in Las Vegas, two Okanagan Gymnastics Centre acro teams headed back south of the border earlier this month for the California State Championship with their coach, Shawna De Leske.

The competition was held just outside of San Francisco.

Teams consisted of Jackson Peters/Jacob Wong in Junior Olympic Level 10 Men’s Pair and Ava Clark/Sara Ross in Junior Olympic Level 8 Women’s Pair.

Both teams showed extremely well over the two-day event against some of the toughest competition around. Each team scored very well and all came home with well earned gold medals.

“We came home from Vegas and I looked at the scores and strategized how to improve our artistry, which should increase our scores,” said De Leske.

“We disassembled each of the four routines and made some tweaks and it worked out very nicely. The scores reflected the hard work the athletes and coaches put into their routines, to which each of us is very proud.”
