Man arrested after assault
A Kelowna man is in police custody and faces potential charges, while the man he allegedly assaulted required surgery from the injuries he suffered.
On Thursday at 2:44 a.m., the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a fight in progress out front of a property in the 1300 block of Gordon Drive.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered a male victim laying on the ground, bleeding from his head and suffering from obvious injuries.
The suspect had reportedly fled the scene on foot.
“Mounties quickly tracked down the suspect who was later taken into police custody without incident,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
“The Kelowna RCMP General Investigations Section (GIS) has now taken over the investigation, as officers continue to secure the crime scene, while they await a search warrant,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey later on Thursday. “The investigation so far has revealed that both the suspect and the victim were known to each other.”
The victim, a 23-year-old Kelowna man, was transported to hospital with what police considered to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The man needed surgery.
The suspect, a 25-year-old Kelowna man, was expected to appear in court on Friday.
Witnesses are asked to contact Const. Kevin Hamilton of the Kelowna RCMP General Investigations Section at 250-762-3300.
