They come from Japan and Pakistan and across Canada. They are the first collection of students taking UBC Okanagan’s new master of management program.

Designed for working professionals, the course is part-time study over 25 months with both online and in-person learning.

The program kicked off this summer with all students coming to Kelowna for an intense two-week introduction.

They are staying at university dormitories, attending classes at the campus and going on field trips to check out the city and visit businesses involved in wine, research and development, health, technology, forestry, government, First Nations and food and beverage.

The master program equips the professionals with problemsolving skills to deal with both economic and social development in a global environment in any sector.

After all, the students are already working in fields as varied as engineering, education, entrepreneurship, technology, health, finance, tourism and operations.

Professors for the program come from UBC Okanagan’s management, education and psychology faculties with international support from instructors from the KEDGE Business School in France and the Orkestra-Basque Institute of Copmpetitiveness in Spain. NHL such as Shea Weber, Josh Gorges and Brett McLean.

As well, volunteers who have their own exotic and luxury cars can register to be vetted and drive a youngster in the rally.

The rally departs from The Sails sculpture in downtown at 10:30 a.m.

However, the cars will be parked there from 9:45 a.m. so the public can have a look before they set off for Penticton and back.

This year, August has partnered with Shaw to be the rally’s title sponsor and Auction World as presenting sponsor.

Last year, the rally raised $134,000 for the Central Okanagan Hospice Association, which looked after August’s uncle, Gary August of Coldwell Banker Realty, before he died of brain cancer in 2014.

Funds raised through this year’s rally will support the hospice, Autism Kelowna and KidSport. Kelowna is the eighth most expensive city in the country for a one-bedroom behind Vancouver, Toronto, Barrie, Montreal, Victoria, Ottawa and Calgary. email: steve.macnaull@ok.bc.ca
