An Alberta man has drowned in Wood Lake.

RCMP said in a news release Wednesday that emergency crews were called to the area of Oyama Road and Trask Road in Lake Country at 2:29 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning in Wood Lake.

Police learned a man had been swimming to a floating dock in the designated swimming area of the lake, when a family noticed he had not resurfaced and called for help.

The Lake Country Volunteer Fire Department launched its rescue vessel, while two divers from the fire department searched the lake with the support of multiple civilian boats, RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the release.

The man’s body was located below the water’s surface, in approximately 2.4 metres of water.

Rescuers pulled the man from the lake and immediately began CPR. Emergency medical crews with the BC Ambulance Service took him to an area hospital.

“Sadly, the 31-year-old Alberta man could not be resuscitated and has since succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” O’Donaghey said.

The man’s name and hometown were not

released.

“The Lake Country RCMP would like to recognize all those members of the public who without hesitation began to search for the missing man and continue to aid emergency crews with pulling the man from the lake and performing life-saving measures,” O’Donaghey added.
