Wildfire in Powers Creek Canyon

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to a small wildfire in Powers Creek Canyon on Friday evening shortly after 5 pm.

Two engines, one squad, a safety officer/inspector and a command unit were responded for a total of 11 staff on scene. The first arriving crew found a 20 x 20 rank 2 grass fire and were able to quickly knock it down with hand lines. Crews built a hand guard around the perimeter and extinguish­ed the hotspots within. WKFR’s inspector was on scene, this fire is considered suspicious and is in care of the RCMP.

WKFR would like to remind the public to remain diligent in the forested areas and parks, we were fortunate that the incident was during a rain event, but we are still at a fire danger rating of 4 in West Kelowna.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to multiple reports of a structure fire in the 3500 block of Elk Road on Saturday afternoon in West Kelowna.

The first arriving engine found a mobile home with a fire that was starting to extend into a neighborin­g unit. The fire crew made a quick knock down in the unit of origin and stopped it from extending into adjacent units. Three engines, one safety officer, and one command unit responded with a total of 13 firefighte­rs on scene. West Kelowna Fire Rescue conducted an investigat­ion the cause of the fire is undetermin­ed but not considered suspicious.

The resident was home at the time of the fire and made it out with minor injuries from the radiant heat.
