Structure fire on Sunview Drive

A fire at home in West Kelowna earlier this week was kept contained to one room.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to a call of smoke and flames coming out of a second-storey window in the 2000 block of Sunview Drive just after 3 p.m. on Monday.

"The crew made a quick knockdown from the exterior, slowing down the fire growth and keeping it from extending into adjacent rooms and the attic space," the fire department said in a news release. Twelve firefighte­rs answered the call. The fire is not considered suspicious. Some residents were at home and escaped without injuries.The residents and their pets were put in the care of Emergency Support Services.

RCMP in West Kelowna are searching for a man who allegedly fled from police, shortly before 1 p.m. last Thursday, after officers responded to reports of a possible impaired driver in the 1500 block of Merlot Drive.

Police are investigat­ing the possibilit­y that this suspect may be linked to additional criminal activity in the West Kelowna area.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximat­ely 5-foot-7, a slender 140 lbs, with short hair. He was last seen wearing grey sweat pants, black t-shirt and flat brimmed hat.

West Kelowna RCMP ask that the public report all suspicious activity to police.
