RCMP seeks homes for stolen property
West Kelowna and Peachland theft victims have until Jan. 15 to claim their items
West Kelowna police still have a lot of stolen goods to return to their owners.
Since putting out a plea for owners to come forward last month, about 20 per cent of the property seized by police as suspected stolen property has been returned.
On Dec. 7, RCMP in West Kelowna conducted a large seizure of suspected stolen property from a local residence. Men’s and women’s jewelry along with personal accessories made up the majority of the suspected stolen property seized by police, which included, rings, necklaces, bracelets earrings, purses, sunglasses and watches.
“At least a dozen individuals have been reunited with their recovered personal property, over the past two weeks, after they attended the West Kelowna RCMP detachment,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “An additional nearly half a dozen individuals, who attended the detachment hoping to claim their personal property, were unable to recognize or identify anything as their own.”
Police continue to encourage residents of the West Kelowna and Peachland areas, who have been the victim of a break and enter and suffered a subsequent loss of jewelry items, to contact the lead investigator of their police file in hopes of claiming their personal property.
Investigators will continue to hold on to the remaining unclaimed property and facilitate a viewing, with those victims who come forward to police, until Jan. 15, when the exhibits will be disposed of accordingly.
Residents who do not have their police file number can contact Const. Richard Schuhmacher or the front counter staff at the West Kelowna Detachment at 250768-2880 for assistance.
