What’s ahead in Year of the Dog?

- HEATHER ZAIS

The year is ruled by the numbers 11 and 2. Adding 2+0+1+8 = 11 and 1+1 are 2. The year of the Dog starts after Jan. 1 as the Chinese follow a lunar calendar. Their new year occurs at sunset following the second new moon after the winter solstice. This will be on Feb. 16. The personality of the dog influences the year. There will be more emphasis on loyalty, faithfulness and companionship. Causes will be championed encouraging projects for the general good. Fighting against oppression and tyranny. Revivals will lift spirits and faith.

In dog years, efforts are made to calm anxiety and unrest. More help will be available. Increased compassion. Efforts made to improve work and labour laws, especially for children, dreamers and slave labour.

The oppressed will stand up for freedom and equality. Those speaking out will rally support or crowds to their cause.

Much barking as politics leans to the left ideology

There will be a need to work across the aisle in a bipartisan way. Some behaviour very dogmatic. A big shakeup as certain matters come down to the wire. Election results will be upsetting to those who have other expectations. Strong patriotism; flags waved over liberty and equality. Standing up for what ancestors fought for.

There will be much jockeying for position and who will be top dog. Some muzzled and others unleashed in the tug-of-wars. Dogeat-dog behaviour could see some barking up the wrong tree. Junk yard dogs.

A strong sense of justice causes action to restore justice and clamp down on hackers and terrorism of all types and locations. Further calls for nuclear disarmament. This occurred in the dog year of 1958 by Lord Russell.

Illusion related to the markets or investments will be found out and underhanded behaviour pointed out. This can cause swings or changes in the market. Seek stable places to put your funds. Bitcoin is illusionary. Take a closer look at the smoke and mirrors. Also where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

The 2 relates to home and the mother influence. Providing homes and shelter will become a larger priority as building and renovating will help. Gather stats and data for the best locations. Delegate.

The 11 has to do with higher truths and ancient wisdom that is still valid today. A renewal of faith. Intuitive and psychic individuals and sensitives showcased as well as writers, teachers, preachers, hypnosis and seers. It also associates to spirits, ghosts and apparitions etc. Words and speeches can be spellbinding; some having fraud or deception. Seek the truth. Sleight-of-hand artists, magicians and those claiming to talk to spirit; look closely as some are charlatans.

Illusion and fantasy taken to new levels. Revisiting black and white film as well.

A mix of religion and politics will see the use of dogwhistle tactics. This will be exposed. Clear the fog in more than one area.

Contend with dense fog in the weather with unusual conditions. 11 connects to the oceans, seas and lakes so this can be a problem there as well along with icebergs. Concerns for water increase. Exploration will go deeper for answers and what is down there. Improving conditions for fish and other sea animals or moving them.

There will be those seeking protection from Chapter 11, bankruptcy and insurance.

Shifts of power or position connected to royalty. A focus on princes.

Spiritual icons in focus, e.g. Mother Teresa was born in a dog year. The healing power of prayer touted. Ghosts, spirits seen or heard. Words inspire.

Deeper investigations go into solving cold cases as the evidence is followed like a blood hound. Lies found out. Files opened to get to the truth. The use of drones helpful in this and other areas.

Twins or things that run parallel in focus such as tracks, roads, bridges and lines.

Other 11 and 2s: Saphire, mud, fire, gold, farm, wool, black, white, tarot, cork, drink, alcohol, spirits, lotteries, hobo, dreams, Star Wars, dress, Emmy, Oscar, music, hound dog and puppy love as well as natural and man-made disasters. Sirius the dog star, dog days of summer, sun dogs and seeing eye dogs. FOR EACH SIGN: ARIES: Soften your approach and your status will rise in the eyes of others. Reach out to them emotionally.

TAURUS: Mate and partnership issues are in focus this year. Allow these to develop or grow naturally now.

GEMINI: You pull strings in front of and behind the scenes. One will give support to the other if you engage.

CANCER: Relationships undergo change. Deal with those of age difference or children. Increase creativity.

LEO: Put firm foundation under your wishes to have them fulfilled. Expand, decorate or organize a move.

VIRGO: Private talks will gain you the added support you need. Meet with those in positions of authority.

LIBRA: Be open to lucky breaks or opportunities coming your way. You can make worthwhile gains easily.

SCORPIO: You will stand out in any leadership roles. Take on a strong or independent agenda. Speak up.

SAGITTARIUS: You pull strings behind the scenes with powerful people. You benefit from this or the past.

CAPRICORN: You are included in the inner circle with influential or authoritative types. Enjoy your status.

AQUARIUS: Your connection to important people or organizations will enhance their goals and yours too.

PISCES: Be a spellbinder to get key individuals on board with your agenda. It’s a win win for all of you.
