Parenting conference set for next month
A Kelowna couple will present a parenting conference at the Coast Capri Hotel on the Family Day holiday weekend.
After becoming parents of three children within 2 1/2 years and losing a fourth, Dale Allen Berg and Lisa Gaytan-Berg were struggling as new parents.
“We were literally sitting around our living room, sleep deprived, struggling to find answers for our parenting questions, when we started looking for resources,” said Berg. “It was out of that search that we realized there wasn’t a parenting conference anywhere near us, and it got us thinking that maybe we should host one and help out more families.”
Headlining the Parenting 101 conference are parenting experts Alyson Schafer and Casey Palmer. The conference will also feature 12 sessions led by experts, including local sleep consultant Pam Nease, Starbright Children’s Development Centre executive director Rhonda Nelson and Kelowna Child Care Society executive director Melissa Hunt.
The conference runs Feb. 9 and 10.
Registration includes meals, the choice of 12 sessions, keynote speakers, Friday night entertainment and child care as an optional add-on.
“We wanted to recreate the village or a parenting community where parents can connect, be encouraged and learn together,” said Gaytan-Berg.
