Coyotes two points away from clinching OK division

The Osoyoos Coyotes are two points away from clinching a fourth straight KIJHL Okanagan Division hcokey pennant.

Cody Allen notched two goals and the Coyotes scored three times during a 28shot second-period onslaught to beat the Kelowna Chiefs 6-3 Saturday at the Sun Bowl Arena.

Austin Cleaver had a goal and two assists and Carter Shannon, Carter Robinson and Jackson Barrett also clicked as the Coyotes (30-10-1-1) maintained a 10-point lead on the second-place Summerland Steam. The Steam (24-13-1-3) has six games left and Osoyoos has four.

Juanre Naude, Tyler Love and Devin Sutton replied for the Chiefs (23-14-1-4), who had a six-game winning streak halted.

The Chiefs routed the visiting Steam 11-4 Friday at the Rutland Arena to temporaril­y jump into second place, but the Steam won 5-3 Saturday in North Okanagan to reclaim second.

The Steam and Kelowna meet again Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rutland. A Kelowna win in regulation would move the Chiefs back ahead in the battle for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, and also clinch the pennant for Osoyoos.

Steam 5 Knights 3: Cairo Rogers scored the winner with 6:11 to play and Cody Swan clinched the win with a shorthande­d, empty-net goal as Summerland handed North Okanagan a damaging loss in its bid for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division.

Blake Holowaty, Scott Robinson and Ethan Grover also scored for the Steam.

Evan Loura with two and Levi Harris scored for the Knights, who outshot the Steam 37-29.

The Knights (13-24-2-3) also lost Friday at Revelstoke and remain five points behind Princeton for the last playoff berth. The Knights have five games left and Princeton four.

FRIDAY – Chiefs 11 Steam 4: Lane Paddison and Kaden Stewart each scored twice and Brody Dale had a goal and five helpers as Kelowna thumped Summerland.

Naude and Love each had a goal and three assists and Sutton, Isaac Dutka, Brett Witala and Aidan Bar-Lev-Wise also scored for the Chiefs, who led 3-1 and 6-1 at the period breaks.

Rogers, Sam Jones, Wyatt Kelly and Lucas Jirousek replied for the Steam, who were outshot 37-29.

Osoyoos travels to Summerland on Friday at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Summerland visits 100 Mile House Wranglers, Kelowna plays the Kamloops Storm in Quesnel, and North Okanagan visits Osoyoos at 7:35 p.m. Kelowna visits 100 Mile House on Sunday afternoon.
