Canada/US should play a best-of-7

- JAMES MILLER Editor’s Notebook

The Olympics should reorganize its structure for women’s hockey, because there are only two strong teams. Have the Canadians and Americans play a best-of-seven for the gold medal and everyone else compete in a separate tournament for the bronze.

Arming teachers is not the solution to mass shootings in the United States. They might all end up shooting their principal once they see their class list and timetable for the following year.

If you think my joke is insensitive and in poor taste, how about all of the stupid comments and non-commitments by the NRA executive over the past several days?

I agree with Laureen Harper (in reference to cougar hunting), it must be a small penis compensation thing.

How does one gain an advantage by taking a banned substance... in mixed curling?

An interesting statistic on gun control. In the latest poll, 97 per cent of Americans are in favour of background checks for prospective gun owners. That’s 97 — nine, seven.

New in the record stores, a long overdue box set from the rock band Toto (10 compact discs or 13 vinyl albums.) Did they say The Rolling Stones or Toto? I’ll stick to just owning a vinyl copy of Toto IV or maybe a greatest hits CD.

Speaking of rock and roll, the guys from Journey are apparently all at each other’s throats right now. The issue — some went to the White House to meet Donald Trump and others boycotted. When you hear about all of the feuds in rock music (Chicago, Guns N Roses, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica), it’s doubtful many of these people realize how many blessings they have in life.

Minnie Riperton (Loving You) was gone far too soon.

Patrick Brown just doesn’t seem to get it. The former Progressive Conservative leader of Ontario, fighting to win his old job back, is out to clear his name on accusations of sexual misconduct.

Brown doesn’t understand that in other professions — teaching and policing especially — a person facing accusations is immediately removed from their position of responsibility until cleared. It sucks being them but this is the way things are done everywhere else.

Brown, who appears to have spent his entire adult lifetime in politics without ever holding down a real job, has no grasp of how the real world works.

Are politicians above everybody else? They are in Patrick Brown’s eyes.

Mr. Brown, the Ontario PCs are not about one person.

If you like super hero movies, do yourself a favour and go see Black Panther this weekend.
