Visitor shot in eye with BB gun

- By Daily Courier Staff

Who shot a man in the eye with a BB gun April 18 in downtown Kelowna?

That’s what local police are asking the public after being unable to find the shooter during the past three weeks.

“Our investigators have exhausted all their efforts of tracking down the potential source of what could be a life-altering incident,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“At this time, we are unable to determine whether this was an intentional act of violence or negligent in nature. Regardless, we believe that some member of the public has knowledge of this incident and we are urging them to come forward to speak with police.”

April 18 was a Wednesday, and at about 10 p.m. a South Okanagan man was walking past The Sails sculpture with his wife, returning to their hotel.

The man felt a sudden sharp, stinging sensation in one of his eyes.

By the time the couple reached the hotel, he had a bloodied face.

The man didn’t seek medical attention until he returned home the next day.

That’s when the doctor discovered a BBgun pellet lodged behind his eye.

He is recovering, but is also waiting for a procedure to remove the pellet.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Const. Emily Tousignant at 250-762-3300.
