-

One person was airlifted to the hospital following a crash with a school bus near Enderby Wednesday afternoon that left the highway closed for several hours.

Vernon RCMP responded to a fourvehicle collision on Highway 97A south of Enderby just after 4 p.m.

Three vehicles and one school bus were involved in what appeared to be a chain reaction, rear-end collision, said Const. Kelly Brett.

“The school bus had stopped to let the last passenger off for the day, when the collision occurred,” she said.

“The bus driver was attentive and could see that a collision was about to occur just as the child was about to unload (and) held the child back just prior to the collision occurring.”

The bus driver and the child passenger sustained no injuries.

Two other vehicle occupants sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance, while another vehicle occupant was airlifted to the hospital.

The highway was closed in both directions seven kilometres south of Enderby until shortly after 9:30 p.m.
