Suspects sought after 2 young girls shot

TORONTO — Police say two young girls are in hospital after being shot in an east-end Toronto playground.

Chief Mark Saunders says some “cowards” came into the neighbourhood Thursday evening and shot the children, though it’s not believed they were the intended targets.

Saunders says the younger of the girls is in critical condition and undergoing surgery while a nine-year-old also will require surgery.

He says officers are canvassing the area for a suspect.

Saunders also says officers are collecting security video from the area.
