Parachute candidates
Dear editor: It seems to me there is a logical fallacy with the BC Liberals main attack on November’s proportional representation referendum. They claim that all three proposed systems have little to no regional-representation. Ignoring the veracity (or lack thereof) of that for now, I must ask: how is that different from first-past-thepost?
I’d guess at least 80 to 90 per cent of votes in Victoria fall along party/policy lines, ignoring any regional components.
Plus, the fact we can have parachute candidates, like our former premier, leaves me wondering if we actually have any regional representation as it is. Tristan Blake
