Cloggers arrive in W. Kelowna for a weekend of dancing

-

They’re coming from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Washington and Arizona but most will be from B.C.

They are dancers who’ve discovered contemporary, precision clogging and they’re converging on the Westbank Community Centre over three days, starting today, for the fth annual Clogover Vine Workshop.

Presented by the local Okanagan Cloggin’ clog dance club, 60 dancers have pre-registered for the event that opens tonight with a meet-and-greet over wine and cheese.

The dancing starts Saturday at 9 a.m.. The Clogover Vine will include various levels of dancers from beginner through intermediate. Local and regional instructors will guide the event, but a special guest teacher will be featured.

The daytime will focus upon honing the dancers’ skills in workshop fashion but the evening will be a 2 1/2 hour fun dance. More sessions are planned on Sunday. Organizer and local clogging instructor, Barb Bizovie of West Kelowna, says “the dancing will be contemporary with a few traditional routines.”

The featured teacher is coming from Winnipeg. “Darolyn Pchajek,” says Bizovie, “is a very energetic and engaging instructor. She is well known in the clogging world for her dance routines and high energy personality.”

Many of the dancers will wind down the weekend with a Sunday night dinner cruise on the lake.

While the event is closed to spectators, people are encouraged to consider trying clogging when the dance club offers new sessions this fall. Check their web page at OkanaganCloggin.com or email okanagancloggin@ hotmail.com.
