Hip-hop veterans among headliners at Center of Gravity
Weekend music and sports festival starts today in City Park
Kelowna’s biggest music and sports festival is back this weekend. Center of Gravity starts today in City Park, with a performance by DJ Invizible at 4:30 p.m.
Headlining this year’s event is Zedd, who performs at 9 tonight, and Wu-Tang Clan, performing at 9 p.m. Saturday.
“The Wu-Tang Clan rarely performs as a full clan,” said Center of Gravity organizer Scott Emslie. “It’s their 25th anniversary, so it’s pretty exciting we’re able to get them for the Center of Gravity. I think it’ll be really cool seeing the whole clan up there.”
The festival wraps up with a performance by French Montana at 9 p.m. Sunday.
This year’s festival features several sports, including beach volleyball, basketball, BMX and skateboarding.
New to the lineup this year is rugby sevens and axe throwing.
Emslie said he is expecting record crowds at the festival this year, which is close to selling out.
“I always just love the energy of the festival, having so many people coming into Kelowna and hosting them on site and creating these awesome moments for the crowd,” he said.
Temperatures are expected to skyrocket this weekend, with highs of 34 C today, 35 C Saturday and 36 C Sunday.
“We’re trying to communicate . . . that it’s going to be really hot, and people should be coming prepared, drinking lots of water and having a hat and getting shade,” said Emslie.
Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Tania Carroll said there will be an increased police presence at Center of Gravity.
