Stack, Donn among those signalling they’ll seek office

The city councillor who topped the polls four years ago will try for another term in office.

Luke Stack picked up nomination papers on Monday from the city clerk’s office. In 2014, Stack was the most popular council candidate, drawing 16,651 votes.

Also picking up nomination papers this week was another of the eight council incumbents, Ryan Donn. Four years ago, on his first try winning public office, Donn placed seventh. He won 9,622 votes.

After Stack, this is the order of finish along with the vote totals of the other councillor­s who won election in 2014: Gail Given, 15,691; Maxine DeHart, 15,683; Mohini Singh, 15,561; Brad Sieben, 12,666; Tracy Gray, 11,588; Donn, 9,622; Charlie Hodge, 9,519.

Other people have picked up their nomination papers this week, but they have not allowed the clerk’s office to release their names to the media.

In 2014, 31 people ran for a council seat and eight people ran for mayor.

This week, Robert Schewe picked up nomination papers for mayor, becoming the first person to signal an intention to run against incumbent Colin Basran. A LinkedIn profile describes a Robert Schewe in Kelowna as a city bylaw officer.

It is not possible under municipal law for city employees to serve on city council unless they give up their job.

School trustee Rolli Cacchioni took out nomination papers for the school board.
