Obstacle race for people and their dogs

-

The race is on to name Kelowna’s top muddiest dog.

The first annual Dirty Mutter, an event similar to the infamous Tough Mudder obstacle race, will be presented by Rebellious Unicorns Productions Inc. and Results 4 Life Fitness next Saturday in Black Mountain.

It’s a muddy obstacle course designed for owner and pooch to complete, and registration closes at 1 p.m. Monday. Participants are asked to pledge a minimum of $100 in donations for Paws it Forward, a local charity that rescues and rehabilitates abused, neglected, abandoned or surrendered dogs. This year, the charity’s goal is to raise more than $10,000, and it’s already almost halfway.

“We are really excited to welcome participants to our first annual Dirty Mutter . . . (it) will be a muddy blast,” the executive producer of RUPC, Dustyn Baulkham, said in a media release.

Participants are asked to register online at dirtymutter.ca. Early-bird tickets are sold out, but regular-priced tickets of $59 plus taxes, which includes gifts for you and your canine friend, are still available for purchase. Anyone without a dog is welcome to join and complete the course, with tickets still available at $49 for ages 18 year and older, and $29 for under 18. Participants are still asked to pledge to raise a minimum, depending on your ticket, for Paws it Forward donations.

Almost 2.5 kilometres in distance, Dirty Mutter is not for the faint of heart. Dogs must be one year or older and in good health, spayed or neutered, and on a non-retractable leash at all times.
