Cannabis school

-

With pot becoming legal Oct. 17, Okanagan College is offering five continuing education courses for those wanting to get involved in the burgeoning business.

The courses start this month and will be offered over several evenings or weekends, ranging from $121 to $1,000.

The five courses are active investing and trading (of cannabis stocks), cannabis business fundamentals, cannabis in the workplace, growing your own cannabis and pest management for cannabis production.

“This is a fluid and dynamic field full of aspiring producers and investors,” said college continuing studies director Dennis Silvestrone.

“The courses we have developed bring a unique educational experience to people interested in the sector. Our goal is to be ahead of the curve and find innovative ways to serve workers and employers in the Okanagan as the industry gains momentum.”

In fact, last fall the college made headlines when it was one of the first in B.C. to offer a cannabis course through its business school called the emerging marijuana industry.

With a long growing season and rich soils, agriculture has always been a big industry in the Okanagan.

Marijuana is another crop that will have an economic impact, just as apples,
