A twist on a Classic who-dunnit mystery

How about a great new take on a classic murder mystery for a cool September night? You won’t want to miss Many Hats Theatre’s production of “Baskervill­e: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery” live on The Cannery Stage at the Cannery Trade Centre in Penticton.

In this adaptation by multiple Tony-award winning playwright Ken Ludwig, Holmes and his able assistant Dr. Watson, take on the Hell-Hound of Devonshire ... but with a comedic twist as only Ludwig can create. The other 40 or so characters who interact with the super-sleuths are played by three actors.

“Baskervill­e” is the fourth show in Many Hats' 11th season. “Baskervill­e” is a hilarious modern take on a classic murder mystery by none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

“The Hound of the Baskervill­es” is one of Doyle’s most enduring stories and “Baskervill­e: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery” is a modern adaptation by Ludwig, a master playwright.

Ludwig, the award-winning mastermind of comic mayhem such as “Lend me a Tenor,” “Moon over Buffalo” and “Leading Ladies,” as well as numerous musicals, has created a fast-paced mystery-comedy about everyone’s favourite detective solving his most notorious case Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must crack the mystery of “The Hound of the Baskervill­es” before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Join the fun and see how far from elementary the truth can be.

“Baskervill­e” is directed by Josephine Patterson and produced by Shannon French. Marlena Dolan stage manages.

Cal Meiklejohn and Martin Pedersen headline as supersleut­h Holmes and his right-hand man, Watson, respective­ly. Playing multiple roles are Rob King, Alyosha Pushak, and Kim Russell.

“Baskervill­e” opens Thursday and runs until September 29. Performanc­es are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at p.m. (The Sept. 27 performanc­e is already sold out)

Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 for students and seniors (GST included). As usual, tickets can be purchased from The Nest and Nectar or reserved during their business hours by phoning 250493-7275. (The Nest and Nectar is closed Mondays.)

There will two gala opening nights. First, on Sept. 6, there will be the traditiona­l opening reception immediatel­y following the performanc­e, which features treats from the Nest and Nectar and wines from Many Hats official winery sponsor Play Estate.

Then on Friday, Sept. 7 ,there will be a reception for the sophomore performanc­e featuring the craft brews of The Cannery Brewing Company, more goodies from Nest and Nectar and door prizes furnished by Andre Martin, official print sponsor, Minuteman Press.
