Solve problem of library parking

-

Dear editor: Our appeal is addressed to all of you who are running once again in this coming election.

We plan to cast our votes for those who are seriously willing to address handicap issues, one of the most serious being why the location of handicap stalls at our community library force those with handicap issues to unload wheelchairs or walk with the assistance of canes or crutches significant distances from the library entrance whilst the able-bodied park immediately in front of the entrance and sidewalks.

We have observed on numerous occasions frail elderly persons struggling through ice and snow, endangering themselves to falls on the long trek from their vehicles to the entrance.

We strongly encourage each one of you to check this out whilst imagining yourself slowly making your way in rain or cold or heat for that matter.

Better yet, borrow a cane and do it the way the handicapped are forced to do as you keep your eye on the able bodied so easily gaining access to the library which is considered to be a public building.

We consider this to be a blatantly shameful issue, particularly as the library claims to have parking available for the disabled when in actuality it is a farce.

Our hope is that the copy of this request addressed to the Kelowna Daily Courier newspaper will bring additional attention to this unfortunate situation. Vic and Gloria Tetreault
